Julien Laurat has been granted the prestigious ERC Advanced Grant
The European Research Council (ERC) awarded 218 Advanced Grants to outstanding research leaders across Europe, under the Horizon Europe programme. The grants, totaling €544 million, support cutting-edge research across various fields, from medicine and physics to social sciences and humanities.
Daali Celebrates Julien Laurat’s ERC Advanced Grant to Advance Quantum Physics Research
The ERC Advanced Grant funding, a prestigious and highly competitive EU funding scheme, gives researchers a unique opportunity to pursue ambitious, curiosity-driven projects with the potential for major scientific breakthroughs. The ERC awards these grants to established, leading researchers who have demonstrated a proven track-record of significant research achievements over the past decade.
Among the selected projects is “NanoAtom: Quantum Optical Physics with Neutral-Atom Waveguide-QED,” led by our Daali partner, Prof. Julien Laurat, from Sorbonne University. As a group leader and Full Professor at Sorbonne Université, Laurat has been conducting groundbreaking experimental and theoretical research at Laboratoire Kastler Brossel. His work focuses on developing the scientific and technical capabilities necessary for the realization of quantum networks. Specifically, his research encompasses the development of light-matter interfaces for quantum storage, the generation of non-classical states, and the implementation of networking protocols using these resources. Moreover, this research involves both fundamental and applied studies in various fields, including quantum optics, non-linear optics, cold atoms, photon detection, and nanophotonics.
Laurat’s professional career has experienced remarkable evolution. In fact, in 2022, the Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation appointed him senior member of the IUF, further solidifying his position as a leading researcher.
Now, with the concession of this prestigious grant, Laurat will embark on a new chapter in his research journey. Specifically, he will move into new frontiers and delve into the world of rich quantum physics. Furthermore, he will leverage unique platforms, known as waveguides, to study the behavior and interactions of light and matter in innovative ways. Ultimately, this grant undoubtedly opens up exciting possibilities for Laurat to make groundbreaking discoveries in the field of quantum optics.
Congratulations Julien on this prestigious grant!
